PICTURE THIS! CAMPAIGN

More than four years ago, Glenn Peterson’s physician decided a PET-CT scan was needed to determine the exact locations of cancer in his body.

Glenn, a former VP of Finance at Royal University Hospital who is also a lifetime member of the RUH Auxiliary, had already undergone a CT scan, but the results weren’t helpful. He then traveled to Alberta for a PET-CT scan because Saskatchewan didn’t have a scanner yet.

The Royal University Hospital’s $2.5 million PICTURE THIS! Campaign has brought the most advanced medical imaging technology to the province. Positron Emission Tomography – Computer Tomography, or PET-CT, provides three dimensional images of the body not available through other tests such as CT scans or MRI exams. That means earlier diagnosis and faster treatment for cancer, cardiac and neurology patients.

Glenn had to travel to Alberta twice for PET-CT scans. While he had family to stay with, he worries the cost of such a trip could be prohibitive for some patients and their families.

“That’s why it’s so important there is a PET-CT scanner in Saskatoon at RUH,” he says. “It’s stressful enough being sick without having the financial stress and cost of transportation, food and hotel on top of that.”

The RUH Foundation partnered with PotashCorp, which committed to match donations up to $1 million. PotashCorp is strengthening the roots of the community.

Today Glenn continues chemotherapy and hopes people will support PICTURE THIS! Campaign so patients like him can be treated here in Saskatoon surrounded by loved ones and familiar medical teams.

To continue to help make that happen for other people like Glenn, Courtney and their families by supporting research and education in nuclear medicine, you can donate here or by phoning our office at (306) 655-1984.
