Intensive Care Unit at Royal University Hospital Named after The Leslie and Irene Dubé Foundation

A generous donation to the Royal University Hospital Foundation Royal Vital Care Campaign was formally recognized on Friday, October 5, 2012, at the unveiling of The Leslie and Irene Dubé Foundation Intensive Care Unit.

The Dubé Foundation’s donation is making a critical difference every day as the Saskatoon Health Region used it to purchase 17 vital sign monitors for the newly renovated ICU.

“These new monitors provide 21st century technology to critically ill patients, their worried families and their dedicated physicians, nurses and technicians,” says Arla Gustafson, RUH Foundation CEO.

The Dubés have always felt the desire to share their good fortune.

“Philanthropy feeds the soul,” says Les. Adds Irene, “Sharing our blessings with others brings us great peace.”

The RUH Foundation is grateful for the generosity of the Leslie and Irene Dubé Foundation as well as that of others, such as SMI, Homes by Dundee and the Sandergaard family whose donations helped transform the new Intensive Care Unit – Critical Care Unit family waiting rooms for the comfort and care of anxious families and friends.

Hope and Healing

As founders of the Concorde Group of Companies, Irene and Leslie Dubé built a successful business and a reputation for giving back. They donated $3 million ~ the largest single donation to Royal University Hospital Foundation ~ to advance the treatment of mental illness and addictions in our community.

In recognition of their philanthropy, the Irene and Leslie Dubé Centre for Mental Health was named in their honour, ushering in a new era of treatment for those in our community suffering from mental illness and addictions. The Dubé Centre opened its doors at RUH in early 2010.

“The Centre has exceeded our expectations,” say the Dubés. “Our hopes and prayers for each and every person who comes to the centre is that they find the peace, solace and healing that their lives require.”

Most recently, the Leslie and Irene Dubé Foundation Intensive Care Unit was named to recognize the Foundation's generous $500,000 donation that brought home the $2.5 million Royal Vital Care Campaign in 2011 that replaced 96 vital sign monitors in the ICU.

The Dubé Foundation's donation is making a critical difference every day as the Saskatoon Health Region used it to purchase 17 vital sign monitors for the newly renovated ICU.

 Lending a Hand

During a construction tour of the Irene and Leslie Dubé Centre for Mental Health, Irene left a hand-written message of hope on a steel girder on behalf of a family member: “I am not defined by my disease. I am still the same person.”

Irene also gave a personal touch to the Dubé Centre ~ she knit 64 colourful afghans, one for each patient bed. “It’s hard to be away from home, especially when you’re not feeling well, so the afghans will provide some comfort at a difficult time,” she says.

The Dubés made their donation to The Future in Mind Campaign, which raised $10.8 million for construction of the Dubé Centre and creation of the Community Mental Health Endowment, which will fund innovative programs for those living wtih mental illness in our community.
