CHERISHED DONORS: Cameco

Over the years, Cameco has invested wisely and generously in the health of our community.

In 2014, the Cameco Cares Concert Series debuted with Barenaked Ladies hitting the stage at the Delta Bessborough Gardens. 100% of the ticket proceeds support the Royal University Hospital Foundation.

In 2012, Cameco helped raise more than $400,521.29 during the Bring it Home Radio-a-thon supporting the Every Heart Matters Campaign. Hundreds of Saskatchewan's cardiac patients and their families, as well as the medical care teams who care for them, directly benefitted from Cameco's $125,000 donation that matched donations from 40 communities across the province. Patients continue to be treated and no longer have to travel out of province for this live-saving treatment. This matching commitment, coupled with Cameco's staff and other involvement in the March 28, 2012 Every Heart Matters Bring it Home Radio-a-thon, helped make Saskatchewan's first full-time Cardiac Electrophysiology Lab - the most advanced in Canada - a reality at Royal University Hospital.

At the Radio-a-thon, Cameco's staff were professional, energetic and driven to ensure success. Their positive presence was noticed by Radio-a-thon volunteers, grateful patients who shared their personal stories on air that day, other Every Heart Matters Donors who were inspired by Cameco's involvement and matching commitment, as well as the radio personalities and RUH Foundation staff.

The Royal University Hospital Foundation is grateful for Cameco's exemplary leadership and support of healthcare at Royal University Hospital and across our community. Over the years Cameco has continued to sponsor both our annual golf tournament and ball while their staff kindly volunteers at both events. Their generous support and leadership over the years have been invested in research, education and patient care at Royal University Hospital.

In 2010, Cameco donated $365,000 to the Royal Vital Care Campaign for the purchase of vital sign monitors in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at RUH.

In announcing this gift, Cameco issued a challenge to other corporations and organizations to step up and help us reach the goal of $2.8 million to place new vital sign monitors in all the critical care units at RUH. Read the news release.

During the successful $15 million Royal Care Campaign, Cameco quickly came on board as a lead donor by pledging $1.5 million for creation of the Cameco Chair in Aboriginal Health. The search is now underway for an Aboriginal physician to lead this important initiative for improving the health of a significant portion of our community. Read the news release.

In recognition of Cameco's health care philanthropy, the renovated Cameco Skywalk was unveiled at RUH. The Cameco Skywalk connects the hospital to the parking lot and is, therefore, the first friendly view that many patients and their families have when they arrive at RUH, and a fond farewell when they leave.
